I decided to sew my own swimsuit next (using the Bombshell pattern). I'm super excited & went to order from SpandexWorld but they wanted to charge me $17 to ship 3 yards of fabric!!! I was sure it was an oversight, so I called customer service & all I got was 'too bad so sad'. "Sorry...that's what FedEx charges. It's out of our control." I don't think there's even a handling charge. That's just what it costs.

I GET it. I do. Everybody has to pay for shipping but COME ON. You could fit all 3 yards in a flat rate priority mail envelope for what? $6. How is it smart for them as a business to only ship via one carrier?? I guess I'll try SpandexWorld next; hopefully their shipping is more reasonable.

Many companies get a discount for this. Those places I have found that the larger the order, the cheaper the shipping.

One kitchen store I use I wound up needing $40 in stuff that I absolutely needed. My shipping was $67. When I added the things I wanted to make my cooking life easier (I didn't need them, but I wanted them anyway), and got to $107, my shipping was only $11. FedEx was the carrier as well.

fedex is also trackable with guaranteed delivery dates while PM doesn't have either of those. yes, PM may show some info while in transit, the USPS doesn't consider it to be tracking. it is just delivery confirmation.

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

The problem with shipping via us postal service is you cannot track the package. I know they say you can but if you call to find out where the package is they can only tell you that it arrive somewhere but they cannot seem to locate the package. Very frustrating for a customer.

SH does overnight shipping by FedEx. They don't do anything shorter. I am willing to bet they got burned in the past.

2014 resolution: keep track of sewn yardage!! I'm subtracting fabric given away from my yardage in. Yeah!
In: 93 yards
Sewn: 69 yards

I'll try anything once :)

Please excuse my typos...sometimes it is harder to go back and edit on mobile than it is worth!

That's true. They can only tell you where the package has been last scanned and won't help find it beyond that. In fact, the post office tells you to contact the sender and ends it at that despite the fact they lost it. Very frustrating for both the customer and the sender.

I paid about the same amount of shipping when I purchased 3 yards from them but I really wanted the fabric. You can try Lycra4Sale on ebay. They have the same kind of fabrics for less shipping. I've used them several times and have been pleased. I know CabinBaby (Dawn) has used them before, too, when making her bathing suits.

I work for an online company that sells textiles and we only ship USPS, all over the world. We've never lost a package in the 3.5 years I've been there.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I have made 2 orders with Lycra4sale, both times I ordered a total of 4 yards and I never spent more than 25$ including shipping,. I should be able to make 6 suits out of the 2 yards of print, their cuts were actually slightly over the yard of each that I ordred.

I prefer the USPS myself. It's ok with me not to know minute by minute where something is, they are not terribly expensive, it's convenient, and I feel like I should support them. And I ship things with them a lot and nothing has ever been lost or slow to arrive. I just sent my mom a flat rate medium sized box stuffed full of books and dvds, about 4 lbs worth, cost $12. Not bad. With two day delivery to a small town on the coast of Oregon

Huh. I just checked my last invoice from SpandexWorld, and they charged me nine bucks and change to ship four yards in May of last year. I wonder if they have changed their shipping policy?
