Have an opportunity to purchase a Janome 9000 (including Scan & Sew software). Asking price is $750. This seems overpriced however you may all tell me otherwise. Please advise if I should go ahead.

I looked on ebay's completed listings and there have been a lot sold for between $275-650. Most fall in the middle--$350-$550. I have often thought I'd like to find one of these too bc i do very little embroidery and could get by fine w/ the built-in monograms. so it'd be 90% for sewing for me and I'd use the monograms but not have to mess w/ software and cards, etc. $750 is high and I don't think the software necessarily will be easy to use esp if not compatible w/ the newer computers and maybe someone else will know if it is or isn't.

The software is useless unless you have an older computer with an older version of windows. Also no means to get designs to computer unless you buy and expensive box and reader if they are even still available. This is a dinosaur, if at all interested in embroidery pass this up and buy something newer. If it's just sewing your interested in probably a decent machine but if just sewing it's overpriced for it's age.

Yes I suspected this but didn't know for sure. Just curious--does this model have many built-in designs so that a person could just use it as a sewing machine and stitch out the monograms and what-ever else is built in. I've often wondered why more machines don't come w/ just some basic embroidery stuff and a full array of monograms in several fonts so no software is needed for that person who may like to embellish once inawhile and do monograms only. I'd love that--so much less hassle that way. and just one machine vs 2 to deal with. SW, do you know if Janome still supports this one for parts/boards? Some bought it for under $400 which seems fair given the limitations. Its a shame the early embroidery combos came with such lame designs built in. Actually i think the new ones are not much better in that department. Also can you say if the 9000 has an automatic thread-cutter?

The Janome 9000 was a TOL apr 12 years ago. The machine has no memory to save a word for repeated embroidery, so each time you turn off power you have to retype a word. This machine has no built in embroidery designs such as flowers ext..those all have to come off the cards. It has 2 fonts built in for lettering, but for longer words such as Christmas you would need to rehoop as only a limited number of characters fit into the hoop size. The software in question would need to run on a Windows 95/98, hook up is a serial port not USB. Janome didn't include scissors on their machine until the MC11000/special edition apr 7 years ago. Embroidery designs created for these machines were the best the technology supported at the time.

I agree ! !

Microsoft will not support Windows XP after spring 2014 anymore. My embroidery machine works only with old version Windows XP 32 bit or Vista.

There are no PC system updates available for my stand alone model.
I'm going to be stuck with an embroidery machine with USB cable in very good working condition.I scratched my head, what to do last January when my old PC bit the dust.I bought a rebuilt XP,because of my embroidery machine. After next spring,I will use my rebuilt XP only with my embroidery machine. Not to go online and download new embroidery designs.

When I see all these good old expensive embroidery machines for sale,I wish I could warn some people not spend a lot of money on old dinosaurs,no matter whether they were TOLs once,or not.

Find out more on what kind of PC system old dinosaurs need to keep them working well for a few more years. There are good, brand new and reasonable priced stand alone embroidery machines available for new PC systems.
