Is there a pattern that is similar?

I have recently stumbled across Norma Kamali, and am really liking the concept of her All-in-One dress. The silhouette looks familiar, but can't quite put my finger on it.

So far I have discerned a few features - dolman sleeve, wide boat? neck, fairly straight, poly/lycra 4way stretch...

Does anyone know of a pattern (or couple of frankenpattern ideas) that might be similar.

The concept is similar to the Donna Karan convertible cardigan for which there was a Simplicity pattern that was/is much beloved.

Thanks for posting this and including the link that got me to the video. Great dress and Norma Kamali is a genius. This is from 1974- it's stood the test of time, almost 4 decades. I'd love to get a look at the real thing and learn more about it. And hear what recommendations are posted regarding pattern possibilities. Thanks again.

What about that one? I got it a long time ago, and discontinued now, but they are still selling it as a discontinued one on the Butterick website now. I think you just leave off the sewn on cowl neck, and extend your bodice fabric up there a bit. If made in light weight 4 way stretch knit, (like rayon/lycra or such) it would really be able to pull off of one shoulder, and those sleeves would stretch out to be able to tie around yourself lots of ways, could even be a long skirt like she does sometimes too, as just put the stretchy neckline part around your waist instead, and tie the sleeves around there maybe?

Hey! Really great pattern find and suggestions too. Still, I'd want to try on an original because it's little things about proportion that make a garment look designer or budget. Of course as you say, the fabric choice and then the finishing make it too.

Thanks for the great suggestion - that might just work.

After I posted, I was looking through my PR pattern stash to see if I could find some inspiration. Am I being crazy wondering if the long sleeved version of the Hot Patterns Uptown Downtown dress might work?? Lose the neck binding and raise the neckline a bit, leave out the waist elastic??

This is pretty bad, but you could always buy the real thing, at a real store, then at home, trace it off as it's only two pieces, and then return it. O.K. , now the Norma Kamali police are probably going to be looking for me

Don't worry! Those police have their hands full with all the rag trade thieves doing exactly that. It's how fashion penetrates to all price points of the market place.

If only. Sadly, it's a bit far to the nearest shop to look at one, and they don't seem to offer international postage.

Look at this long one. For inspiration. She actually has arm holes built into the funnel neck part of the dress, so you can pull it way down, also wear it sleeveless and use the sleeves as a waist tie too. That is pretty neat.

What a great dress! So much more wearable in real life than most convertible dresses. Thanks for posting this! I wonder, in the one-shoulder look, the sleeve wraps around the front, then where do you attach it?
