I cannot seem to find solid white fabric that feels and looks quality... I hold it up to the light and I can see through it...place my hand behind it and I can see it. Is it me or do others notice this too??? Is there a brand that you can recommend that you are completely satisfied with...

Personally, I like Kona Cottons made by Robert Kaufman. Can you see your hand though it? I don't know, I have never tried, so perhaps this would not suit you.

I don't think that you want something TOO heavy and thick because it would be hard to get that nice scant quarter inch seam allowance. Although, when I first started quilting I bought unsuitable fabrics and made do because I didn't know any better.

I think this is a very common problem.

This is why some people insist on pure white battings and are so picky about always pressing the seam allowance toward the darker fabric.

I happen to have some Kona white cotton that I'm working on right now. If I hold it up to the light, I can see through it.
I can also see my hand beneath it.
However, it IS really good quality.
I also have some very nice JellyRoll solid white, but I can see through that as well.

Thank you all for sharing... Do you have a source online where you like to purchase it??? I don't have quilting shops near by...it's more of a wait until I'm in that area that I would stop in.

Thanks for mentioning using white batting...I must remember that. I am a fairly new quilter...

There are lots of places to buy Kona cottons. (Please do not make a mistake and think that this is from Kona Bay, that is a different company. These are Kona cottons from Robert Kaufman.)

I am just buying some Kona cottons at this site: www.fabricshack.com. I am a long-time, satisfied customer, but I have no other affiliation with them. Kona cottons are $5.49 at Fabric Shack and their shipping charges are always reasonable.
