I need a very thin sewing thread for silk chiffon. Regular all purpose Gutermann from JoAnn's as well as Gutermann silk thread are not thin enough for my project... I am trying to get a better looking 3-thread serger stitch on 2 layers of chiffon. I have a RTW silk dress and a serger stitch there is so delicate with almost spider-web like thread. When you sewing with silk chiffon, what thread are you using? Does anyone know where to buy a very thin thread?

Try contacting Superior Threads - here is the phone #: 800-499-1777 for a recommendation. Hope this helps.

Usually you don't overlock chiffon, french seams are preferred. The thread you are referring to is nylon, it gives the fines overlocked finish

The Mettler brand cotton machine embroidery thread that is a 60/2 weight is perfect for silk chiffon. If you have a Bernina dealer in your area, or an independent fabric store, they usually sell this thread. The Mettler 60/2 cotton is what I used for both sewing as well as the 3-thread rolled hem on my serger. It turned out beautifully in the serger. I highly recommend it.

Janome has a 90 weight serger thread that I love. It is very light and fine. However, I have not used it on silk chiffon but my guess is it would be very nice. I am going to try Doris's suggestion of the Mettler 60/2 along with the Janome and compare. The Janome is polyester

I use So Fine 50 for serging and Tire silk for the sewing machine, both from Superior Threads.

Where did you find it? I would love to try that in my cover stitch machine.

Superior Threads 100 wt Kimono Silk would be my first choice. I also like the Mettler 60/2 cotton embroidery thread that Doris mentioned.
