I haven't posted in a while as I've been busy with, among other things, a real sewing class. One of the few remaining independent fabric shops offers it, and I had to wait to get in since the instructor doesn't take more than 4 students at a time. It was worth it, though.

The project is a straight skirt (McCall's M3830) & the focus is on learning how to fit. I started this week & in the first lesson was adjusting the pattern & cutting the muslin using Swedish tracing paper. I am in love! Working with that vs. the tissue pattern is like night and day. I told my instructor that I can see myself tracing all my patterns for that reason only, not to mention the money saved by not cutting up the printed pattern, and she agreed that it was a good habit to adopt. It's pretty inexpensive and the cost would be more than offset in saving on patterns. They cut yardage from a bolt at that shop but I can see buying a roll for myself when I start doing more sewing on my own.

Good for you----for taking the sewing class and for tracing the patterns. :)

I buy six rolls at a time and trace everything. It is my go to tracing medium and I, too, would never be without it!

Would your teacher be able to provide you with a source for you to post? Is it similar to the "sewable Swedish tracing paper" sold at Nancy's Notions?

Sorry, but I got it cut off the bolt at the shop where I have my class. That's what my instructor called it so I guess Nancy's is the same thing.

Hi -

I stumbled across Swedish Tracing Paper several years ago, I'm not sure where exactly - may have coincided with the first Ottobre magazines I purchased, since those need to be traced off (though I traced Kwik Sew patterns before that, usually on sew-in interfacing or the interfacing with grid lines printed on it... so I don't know!).

I get mine here: Birch Street website.

I used to get 3 rolls at a time (it's a better deal than a single roll - price per roll and shipping per roll) but last time I purchased 6 rolls (for the price of 4, and the shipping is less per roll). If you google, you can find it through other vendors like Nancy's Notions.
