Many patterns still say leave open at shoulders and hand-sew--don't think so!
I turn thru sides, then machine sew all the way around as far as possible. Any other tricks? Would often like to leave out linings for summer coolness, but then you have to finish both armholes and neck.

I found this, easier than open shoulder seams:

I love a bias tape finish to the arms and neck when I'm not using a lining. I have a big basket full of it. I know a lot of people make their own bias tape but I hate doing it, so I just pick some up whenever I'm at the store and keep it stocked up.

I love bias tape for casual children's clothing, too. It gives a nice, clean finish on the inside and has the added benefit of being quick to sew. For lined bodices, I like an all-machine finish (I think The Slapdash Sewist's tutorial is particularly well-explained).
