Since I will be doing applique on approx a 40 x 40 piece of fabric should I stabilize it in any way? At this time will be doing either a nearly there blanket stitch or a clear zig zag stitch to tack the fusibles down. And doing something this big should I press all the pieces down first or as I go? I'm thinking as i go as I don't want know how long it will take to get to all the pieces and I don't want them curling up etc while waiting to be sewn down. As it will get quite a lot of handling while sewing down the pieces. This is the original tapestry this is based on. From the 16th century. You wouldn't believe the stuff I saw looking for this, great ideas for quilts

Allowing for the fact that I know nothing about it (!), which naturally does not stop me giving an opinion, I would say it would be better to do it as you go. If you don't, then you might have trouble with them due to so much handling.

I agree with Barb, I think it will be better to work in sections at a time.

I think it will be less worry about the pieces getting wrinkled and smooshed while you are working on a different section and also you will be able to REALLY see how they need to be placed in relation to a finished, sewn down section.
