I can NOT believe I've done this TWICE now! I ironed fluffy polyester batting! You can NOT iron fluffy polyester batting because it MELTS and turns into a BRICK.

I spent 2 days! thread painting/FMQ an adorable panel for a very very dear friend's baby shower, it was SO CUTE! The little animals were all fluffy and puffy, and the surrounding trees and grass looked SO COOL. I used silk #100 thread and I was so happy with it.

Then I decided I wanted to press the corner that was heavily quilted. Heavy quilting in one spot really draws up the fabric in that spot. I was DONE! Just had to trim away the fluffy batting close to the stitching, then was gong to add the recycled bottle batting and fleece back and just outline the animals and some of the foliage.

It MELTED the batting into one hard stiff thin brickette! It feels TERRIBLE! I can't give that as a gift for a baby! UGGGGGG

Of COURSE the fabric is out of print, Hancock's no longer has it, (I called) so I had to order one from ebay and hope it comes in time. The shower is July 6th! I will NOT be able to do all that intricate work again, it will have to be an all over stipple.

Last week I already ordered the binding fabric, AND a fleece panel to make matching stuffed animals and a pillow, AND the fabric for the matching changing pad and burp cloths. So I NEED this to match!

Cat, I am so sorry. That is a terrible thing to happen, and worse yet, you can't blame anyone else!!!

I have nothing but sympathy for you. A moment's inattention and all of that work gone. It could happen to anyone!!! Can you salvage any of it?

:-( I'm so sorry!!! Maybe switch to natural batting for the next one?

Thanks for the hugs Barb!

It is one panel, I really can't cut it up. I tried to take out the stitching...NOT happening! Plus, now there is a HOLE where I cut the fabric trying to get the stitches out.

I was crying and really upset, and I showed hubby. He felt the crispy thin brick part and said "That's IT? What you are so upset about?!? Just tell her to put the kid's head in the other corner!"

UGGGGG.....that's a BIG N. O.

Oh dear :(
Sending sympathy and fingers crossed posted fabric comes as fast as is possible.

DO NOT turn on the iron again until you have that fabulous present safely out of the house!

Thanks Squish!

I wanted it to puff, and natural batting just doesn't puff. Unfortunately.

Can you salvage any of it for a wall hanging? Maybe add some pockets and it could be used for a changing table organizer. Don't trash the whole thing if you don't have to.

:-( I don't quilt, so I didn't know that about the natural batting not being puffy. However, I have ruined things last second and I feel your pain.

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear!!! These things happen even to a genius like you? What's a mere mortal like me going to mess up? I don't know how to paint with thread . . . you are working at a very elevated level. One little misstep has a big impact. Really sorry. Have fingers and toes crossed that the fabric arrives on time for your ambitious project. Till then and your DH is a sweetie. Maybe he has a point? After all, the baby's going to "christen" it anyway. No offense intended on the religious front.
