Hello, all! I'm hoping someone can help me with a serger issue, as I've lost the manual. The machine is a Singer 14U44 that nearly 20 years old, and it has been great up till now. The leftmost straight stitch is skipping in places, though not consistently. Could it be that I should replace the needle? Adjust the tension? Something else?

Many thanks!

Anytime I've had skipped stitches on a serger replacing the needle usually fixes it. That's the easiest thing to try first before you start changing tensions.

Thanks! I will try that. I'm fanatical about replacing them with every project on the regular machine, but I think I've neglected the poor serger.

Make sure you use the right needle, too. The Singer overlockers from that time used different needles to the sewing machines (and may still do, I haven't looked at a newer one).

If you go to Singer's website and click on to Instruction Manuals they offer a free download for your model or a hardcopy for 15.00

That is great news on the manuals! Also on the different needles. I think I'll be busy online today! Thanks everyone.
