In 2011, when I first got it into my head to start sewing (and before the horrible sewing machine breakdown that delayed me keeping it up), I did a lot of research on how to get the best-looking-possible garments as a beginner.

Since I am waiting for my muslin to dry after truing the grain, I've been working on a blog entry that compiles what I learned back then. I'd love feedback from you all . . . and I hope to continue updating the post as I get a better grasp on how to get the best possible result even as a beginning-level sewer.

That was a good read!

Here's another thread for you to consider:
Knit Sewalong

Check out Lynn Rowe's reviews and then consider that some of the best indie patterns are for knit tops. Then think about some of the tops Lynn has made in a fine silk jersey.

Just a thought!

That was a great post. All beginners should read it; heck, maybe just about everyone should read it, as a reminder.

Great post demoiselle, an interesting read that makes great sense! I particularly enjoyed 'Donít Sew for a Fantasy' and 'Just Wear It, Already!' both of which I think are a problem for me... though I'm getting past the fantasy pretty quick *sigh*

As a perfectionist myself, I have had to make myself realize that outsiders are far less critical of the finished product than I am. Most people are far too busy worrying about how THEY look to be focusing on your zipper. Try sitting on a bench at the mall sometime and look at all the bad-fitting RTW that passes by.

What a great post -- and a good reminder for this more experienced sewist.
