For those who have this cutter, how much waste is involved? Does it leave a lot of waste fabric around each cut? This would be wonderful for my hands, but honestly, I watched the video and there was a LOT of waste.

I hate waste. Not only mine, everyone's. I have such a strong sense that the Earth is finite, and I hate to waste any of it. Some waste is built into living, I know, but I really try to minimize it in daily life.

Franksdottir = I cut mostly strips with mine and the rag quilt cutter is great. I think you just have to plan your lay out carefully to minimize waste along with stretch of fabric (lengthwise/widthwise) for accuracy. I sort the scraps in different bins for scrap quilts. I would imagine the applique shapes would have the most waste. But it is a time saver for me, saves my hands and easier on my eyes. I donate the scraps that I don't use to church for quilts.

I dont feel like there is tons of waste. I only have 3 basic dies.

But, when I use the cutter - like I did today - I cut 400, 2.5 by 4.5 pieces in 30 min. Then, I cut 400 2.5 inch squares in 10 min.

I remind myself how MUCH Im cutting. There would be lots of waste if I was cutting 400 pieces.

Honest - I dont feel there is more waste. I feel the cuts are perfect. It is faster. There are many many quilts that use 2.5 or 3.5 by something.. With a few dies it is easy to cut lots of pieces.

Making scrap quilts is much easier with the cutter.

The accuquilt is a great timesaver and it does not waste much. My husband and I cut 2 inch strips for the postage quilt stamp quilt. There was only about 3/8 inch waste on each side of the fabric. After the first strips were sewn together and pressed well, we used it to cut the stripes in the opposite direction. There is a great price on one now in one of the other conversations in pattern review today.

I ordered one. My 85 year young Mother will get first chance with this. Hoping she likes it. I got the 3.5" by 6" chisel cutter because she uses her scrapes for friendship braid quilts. Also the 2.5" x 24" strip cutter and matt to go with it.
