With Google Reader's impending demise on monday, I needed a moment to reflect on our years together and put a flower on GR's tomb:

There isn't a gravestone for my most missed service: google SMS. You could send a text message to google with the name of a business or whatever, and it would text you back the address and phone number. It was my not-having-a-smartphone workaround, and when I tried it yesterday I got a text back saying the service had been shut down. Dangit!

I am online all the time and I've never even heard of most of those products, which may go a long way towards explaining why they are now dead.

I stay away from anything Google because of their privacy issues.

I had actually heard of and used several of the Google products listed. Interesting how Google Glass is anticipated to be added to the list. A colleague received millions in venture capital funding to develop apps for Google Glass and I'd gone to a tech seminar just last week and there was an open discussion about developing apps for Google Glass. A few early adopters were wearing their Google Glass devices.
