Did anyone else see the l220 on Bernina's Facebook feed last night? It looks like it is Juki-based, with knob tensions and a metallic panel that matches the 300/500/700 series sewing machines. I'm intrigued.

Perhaps even more interestingly, the thread of commentary includes some news about next year's Bernina sergers. One person--seemingly a Bernina admin--claims that the Babylock patent on air threading will expire, and the new Bernina sergers will be stealing the technology. We shall see...

Sorry I can't link, you'll have to "like" Bernina USA on FB.

I have been looking at CoverStitch machines. Am I correct that the Bernina L 220 will be a CoverStitch? and now, I am curious about the features how much this one will be...

Thanks for the heads-up. I took a look on their FB page, they also mentioned the jet-air threading for sergers. Too bad I already have all the machines I need, and new ones at that.

Some would have to pry my 1300MDC out of my cold dead hands and I can thread it in a matter of minutes but I'll be interested to see what the new ones are like.

One thing I love about the combo machine - I can do chain and overlock in the same pass.

Is the 1300 a combo machine? I love my combo because I use that chain/overlock combo a lot too. But would like a freestanding coverstitch machine. I really don't care about jet air threading and wouldn't pay more for it, but remember coveting the Bernina 009 coverstitch machine, quite pricey for just a single coverstitch. I wonder what this will go for? Compared to the Janome 1000 with a bigger bed it seems that's going to be a hard value to beat especially with the extra space.

The only dig I've ever heard about the Janome is the machine is reasonable but the accessories aren't.

Yes, the 1300 is a combo - I can set it for cover in about 3 minutes! Just takes some practice...

Juki makes Bernina. You will pay some extra $$$ for that B! Supposedly Juki is coming out with an air threader. Might be good or might be a disaster. I hope people will give it a year or so "testing time" before they run oiut and buy it. Babylock has been doing what they do for a long time. THey are great at it too. Hard to beat that history.
IMHO though, an air threading coverstitch is ridiculous-especially when you look at the Janome. One LOOPER that moves to allow you to thread it.

I think the auto tension ability is still under BL patent...that is the feature I adore about my Enlighten. I just went from a thick knobby terry cloth to a fine sheer polyester and the tensions were perfect on both. Amazing!!!!
HOWEVER Bernina via Juki has made some awesome sergers in the past. My 30 yo 234 still sews perfectly as does my DL800...flawless. It's just I am getting gun shy with anything "new" that Bernina introduces lately.

I find it unlikely that Juki's air threader will be a disaster considering the fact that Juki makes the Babylock sergers and coverstitch machines.
