I am converting the top of my new gown to this style, with sheer illusion for the top part and sleeves but having a heck of a time describing it! It will have a fold over band as this dress does, as well. Hoping to get it put together today and get photos up soon.

In bathing suits it's called a bandeau.

I thought bathing suit tops are termed bandeau because they are actually a band of fabric running around the body. In French, a bandeau is a headband or head bandage or blindfold. That makes sense, so it seems like it wouldn't apply to a full bodice. But I Googled it and saw it being used that way, so what do I know.
