I do a lot of burps as shower gifts and the hoop that came w/ my 770 broke today..the screw won't screw into the hole. i got my project done using rubber bands to hold the bottom in place! I wondered is there a "better" hoop that will fit my machine...one that is generally easier to use? If not, I will just order a replacement hoop like the one i had.

Did the hoop actually break or are you just having a problem with the screw? A few years ago I had a problem with the screw for my Brother hoop. Cost to fix: 13 cents. I went to the hardware store and the guy fitted a screw to the hoop. That may not work with your situation, but it's worth a try. :)

I have the screw, but it doesn't grab anything in the hole so i twist it in and it comes back out. maybe the inside is stripped. I won't give up on it...yet...

You are missing the tiny nut that fits inside the part of the hoop that the screw goes in. Take it to a Brother or Baby Lock dealer (same nut fits both brands 5x7 hoop) and they should be able to replace the nut for you. Even if they charge a few dollars to do it, it will be cheaper than a replacement hoop.

Sounds like you may have forced the inner hoop into the outler hoop and striped the threads on the screw.

Have you tried the hoopless method?
