I decided to take the plunge and signed up for a quilting class at a semi-local quilt shop (in Mt. Airy, MD). Starting in August, and going once a month through February, we're going to do a paper pieced Mariner's Compass, and I'm doing the queen sized top.

Not only will this be a first in terms of a long term quilt class for me, it will also be the first quilt I make specifically for me.

Well, I've been quilting for a while, but nothing as big as a queen sized quilt and never anything for me.

Way to go! What pattern are you sewing or is it a design of the instructor. I would love to see pictures!!

That sounds so awesome. I wanted to take some classes this summer, but alas it seems our LQS instructors are away the whole summer on retreats and stuff.

It's a design of the instructor, but I think they've got a picture of it on the class webpage (Mariner's Compass class page). I'll definitely post pictures as I go.

This will be great incentive for me to finish up my sewing room and get it put back together before the class starts in August!

Oh, have fun! I love the Mariner's Compass, but it is too much work for me! Please be sure to post pictures for us, some of us have to live vicariously...

They are doing similar pattern at Bear's Paw in Towson MD it was quite a bit more expensive there as I wanted to do it. It's a Judy Niemeyer design the instructor is probably an authorized instructor.
