Ok so it's not really KathySews fault, however if I had not read about or seen her beach dress I would never have wanted one for myself and would not have spent the last few days getting my maxi turned to a midi dress to fit.....
It does fit but is took a lot of time and effort and I am not even sure I like it.
I used my pattern drafting software for the wrap empire bodice, the skirt is gathered tiers. The plan was for 4 tiers but I didn't have enough fabric so it went from a maxi dress to a midi dress.

I finished it last night but after wearing it around the house I found a number of problems. I had wings under the arm and the wrap gapped open a lot when I sat down. I truly wish I had not edge stitched the bodice. I did try it on before I did the edge stitching and things did look Ok when I was standing up. I had to take all that edge stitching out. grrrrrrr

The one thing that I thought might be a problem wasn't. I thought there might be to much fabric in the gathered part under the bust and I would look like I was pregnant.
I used a gauze fabric and that can be tricky. It looks and feels so light weight but can end up being bulky when gathered.

Pictures tomorrow after I clean up the seams with the serger.
It is very comfortable to wear.

ps. I am proud of myself for sticking with this dress and not putting it in the UFO basket. It was a very close call

Just checking in. Happy I could cause some trouble
Looking forward to pictures. After wearing my beach dress I am struggling with determining a good length. Not sure I like it all the way to my ankles.

LOL...I was admiring Kathy's dress, too! It looks so comfortable and versatile for the warmer months. I look forward to seeing your version, AdaH. :-)

Finally finished the summer dress. My first for this year. I see one big glaring problem but am choosing to ignore it as I don't see myself wearing this dress other than around the house. DH said he didn't notice it till I pointed it out to him and I didn't notice till I saw it in the picture.
The fabric is kind of amazing...a gauze that I picked up at Hancocks last year. I have taken this dress apart about 5 times and it only started raveling the last time around.
I used my pattern drafting software for the bodice. It did a good job drafting the bodice except the shoulders were to wide and the v neckline was to narrow, darts were right on as was the length from shoulder to under the bust (always a problem in the big 4). I learned a lot working on this dress, so thanks to KathySews for giving me the push to try it.
