Gail K is our only store focusing on fashion fabric. They have a ton of it, and you might have to dig around a bit to get to every bolt, but you definitely need to stop there! It's pretty well organized by type of fabric, and the people that work there are helpful.
For quilting cottons, I like Little Quilts in Marietta and Sew Main Street in Woodstock. There are a few others scattered around the metro, but none that stand out to me like those 2 (and I haven't been to them all).

I'm not a big purchaser of quilting cottons at all, but am interested in fashion fabrics!

I'll be looking to take my mom too as, she *only* buys fabric from WalMart! I have found some good finds there - priceless for muslin fabric - but I want her to get some good stuff!Ok, and me too!!

Gail K is my favorite, but here's a close second: Fine Fabrics at 6624 Dawson Blvd, suite 11, Norcross, GA 30093. I haven't been there for 6 months, when they were called Cleaner's Depot, but I got some great deals there. (And I got a lot of knits.)

It's a little ways from Downtown Atlanta, but not very far.

Also, if you are an ASG member, you get 20% off at Gail K. Just show them your membership card!

Gail Ks. I am going to visit the Fine Fabrics. Thanks for that. Be aware of Gail K hours. They are closed on Monday. Open 10-4 on Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat. Thurs 10-7 and 12-4 on Sun.

Thanks for the tip re fine fabrics. I went to Gail K last summer but I might try fine fabrics this year. My hours away from the kids are limited this time year and I don't know if I can get all the way downtown. My parents are in Forsyth county, so it's a hike. (especially for a city girl like me who isn't used to the amount of driving you do in the South.)

Also, I'm especially interested in heirloom stores because I don't have access to them in the north. Has anyone tried Discover sewing? I would like to check out their Duluth branch.

Well, Patti, I've just come back from fine fabrics and I'm not sure whether to thank you or curse you! I bought a shocking amount if yardage for a shockingly small amount of money. The place is huge and the prices are rock bottom. They had a vast selection of knits and costume or dance type fabric and a big selection of silks and suiting type wools. There were various cottons and linens and lots and lots of other things. The only thing I did not find was some wool for winter coats, but I suppose no one needs that down here. Also, they did not have anything I would consider bridal or formal wear other than a few random finds.

I recommend going there with a list and some idea of what you need. It took me a while to look around and get a sense of what they had. Then we went for lunch and came back with my list of upcoming projects. I did not strictly speaking find much of what I was looking for, but did stock up on lots of basics I'm pretty sure I'll get good use out of. I won't tell you how much I bought or spent, but I will say that I found some really nice quality cottons at $2-3/yard, linens of varying quality at $6/yard and silks of various quality for $7-10/yard. Wools seemed to be in the $13 range, and I suspect many of them were blends. However, the woman at the counter burn tested everything for me when I asked about fiber content.

I should go copy and past this into a review I suppose. Happy shopping everyone!

I just wish I could make the trip to Gail K this summer, but this took us the entire day to do. I'm not sure I'll have another day to spend.
