Did anyone catch the first episode of "Endeavour" last night (the prequel to "Inspector Morse")? I loved it.

I don't know if it's been shown everywhere yet, so I don't want to give away any details. But it's about young Inspector Morse (whose first name, according to the intro. blurb, was apparently Endeavour -- did they make this up, or did Morse reveal that at some point?). It's set in the 60's and has a very good 60's atmosphere.

I remember an episode where Morse admits his first name but I can't recall the details of the episode. It was to a woman he was seeing/trying to date.

I saw it, and loved it (although perhaps we're an episode ahead here, last night was the 2nd one). I hope it becomes a lasting series....

It was in last weeks show, that's really his first name. I was on the edge of my seat last night, it was a really good show, and my dog was taking up most of my spot, also.

It reminds me of Midsommer Murders more than Lewis and Hathaway, but in a different time.

Haven't watched them yet (recorded). They may be repeats from a few years ago as are many other MM series.

Got really tired of the old Morse (too much alcohol, and horrible classical music).

I can miss whole shows if they are not what I'm into. This one is new to me. I've also started watching a Scott and Baily show that seems interesting. I've only seen 2 of those.

I'm searching for something close to Murder in Suburbia (edited) or Midsommer Murders and not finding it.

Midsomers is not on all the time. The shows seem to run in cycles. You get a few of this or that, then PBS changes to another avenue. After three or four young Morse, there will be something else.

Years ago Midsomers was on the biography channel and we got to enjoy several shows with at least three different Barnaby sidekicks!

I wish BBCAM would pick up these series.

I wondered -- I know some areas are one week ahead of us (Ontario/Western NY), but I hadn't heard anyone talking about this yet.

Good -- I'm glad they didn't make it up.

I didn't really get that vibe, but I can sort of see what you mean.

At first I was prepared to be cynical, because this actor is in many ways different from John Thaw (who played Morse in the "Inspector Morse" series). But it didn't take long before they had me believing a young Morse could have been like this. I notice they've incorporated some of his classic gestures (putting his hand on the back of his neck when he's thinking something over or when he's getting frustrated).

I did think they tended to make him a little too Sherlock Holmes-like in the first episode. I haven't seen the second episode, so don't tell me if this continues.
