Hope this suggestion helps sewers as much as it helps me.
I bought the "dental Pack" at the drug store where the dental stuff is.it comes with a mirror and 2 picks.
The sharpest hook is what I keep at my sewing machine. When you have to pull up the bottom thread and you just have a little loop, hook it with this pick into the the loop, and it comes right up . When sewing I always bring up the bottom thread that way it dose not snaggle under my work. It also helps when you use the threader for the needle and get a small loop, I insert my pick and pull the thread thru.
Here's to notions!.

Every time I buy a pack of orange sticks for manicures, I put one next to my sewing machine.

It's a great point turner. Also the beveled edge is "grabby" and works to position something near or under the presser foot (picture holding down a stubborn gathered piece of fabric).

I find it really handy.

I don't use a ton of notions. Pins, needles, tape measure, hem gauge and my pressing tools are just about it (good scissors and shears are a given).

I keep pencils, sharpener, tracing paper, rulers, French curve, and a flexible rule all together in a box for tracing patterns. I want an SA ruler for adding seam allowances.

Thread snips. I have a pair of Fiskar shears that have lasted me 30+ years, partially because I keep them hidden away in a sheath and partly because I never use them to snip thread. I keep multiple pairs of thread snips in handy spots around the house.

Measure twice, cut once. While this saying is useful in many ways, I have no qualms about editing my posts.

UFOs completed in 2014: 1 - woohoo! finished my oldest UFO - an apron cut out in the mid-80s with a pattern from the mid-40s! and the bias binding promptly disintegrated in the wash! Ok, it was from my Great-Grandmother's stash, which means it was bought anytime from the 1910's to 1970's.
Projects started recently completed in 2014: 2
New Projects started in 2014: 3
Stash:
sewn in 2014: 0
bought in 2014: 17.25

I know...I'm procrastinating.

purple thang second try

It seems to be good now...I have noticed it has been mentioned by other sewists here on PR. My local quilt shop has them for $3.50.
I misplaced mine the other day and was hopeless without it...I went and bought 2 more ...kind of like seam rippers and seam gauges...essential
