Previous woes on the first two muslins (see here) led me to go down a size. Since it was from 16 to 14, I had to buy the pattern again in a smaller size range. It definitely looks better.

Drat -- my finger slipped and this posted before I got the problem stated and the picture posted:

What's going on in the back with the lower darts? I have a relatively flat back and a small rear end so I don't need much dart take-up.

I sewed most of this like the wind -- to theatrical costume standards when opening night is just a few hours away, not wear-in-public standards. But I sewed the carefully marked darts with precision.

I started this six weeks ago, hoped to wear this to a wedding next weekend. Don't know if this is possible or if the pattern will even work out for me. All I can say is I have plenty of practice putting it together.

It looks as if the fabric is hanging up on your underware? Notice how the CB seam is angled towards the calf of your leg. Maybe a tiny sway back going on? Otherwise the fit looks really nice.

If you have a little rear, perhaps the problem is too much length of fabric. Other people would have that fabric taken up going around the butt but if your butt is flatter, that fabric becomes excess and forms folds.

Your fit is looking pretty good. The folds seem to be pointing to the problem. I would follow those by pinning out a horizontal dart starting at the center back, tapering to nothing at the side seams and then reevaluate how it looks.

Thanks for the responses! The underwear hangup, AdaH, is a possibility -- it's a potential hazard when using the self-timer and scrambling to place before the camera snaps the pic.

Thanks, JEF and TX. I will pin out a fold and see what happens.

Is your right shoulder lower than your left? On the photo your right elbow is lower than your left.

If you make a correction for this, I'd only do about 1/2 or less of what you think would be 'perfect'.

And I agree that you've got too much length in the back, especially between the waist and the hips.

I think the fit is looking pretty good and you have already gotten good advice. That is Simplicity 2648 right? All those seams are perfect for fixing fit. Just sew out what you need-it looks like if you pinch that out along that seam a little to get rid of that wrinkle-at least I would try it with a basting stitch first. Very nice colors by the way!

Try shortening it a little bit above the waist and below the waist. But it looks really good overall. Bravo!

To me it looks like it's too long in the backwaist. Try pinning the skirt up a bit on the bodice and see if that helps. It'll be a bit difficult with the zipper in there, but you might be able to tell if that's going to help.
