I have an almost ten year old White brand sewing machine. Last night, for the first time, my stitch dial stuck, somehow. I was able to turn the dial, but the mechanism did not engage, so while the dial showed I was on a zipper setting, my machine was sewing zigzag.

Is there a quick fix for this sort of issue, or do I need to take it to a professional?

If you brought it to the shop, we would put WD-40 on the mechanism to dissolve the old oil. Then we work the mechanism until it's not sticking any more. The important thing to know is that all that WD-40 needs to be removed. We use an air compressor and flannel rags to remove it at the shop. You may need to use flannel rags, Q-tips, or maybe you know someone with an air compressor. After it is all removed, then it needs to be re-oiled.

Good Luck!
