I have a new machine and after several hours of sewing the oil light came on. I have cleaned and lubricated as instructed but the light still in on. I have set the stitch number back to 0, but can not figure how to get the light display of the oil can off. Any suggestions?

I had that problem on my 530 - I never did any updates, though.

I think folks who had that problem reported that they did the update and it worked as it was supposed to.

I did not keep the machine - I never did the update - hope that helps.

Here is the update from the Bernina site. Your oil can light should go away after doing the update.

It's not an update, it's a built-in reminder that goes off after so-many-million-stitches. You have to take it to the dealer, who needs to get into the service panel to re-set it. It's not going to hurt your machine to keep sewing. And it won't do any good to continue oiling--you'll just over oil. It's an irritating little thing that Bernina does to keep you coming back to the dealer.

True, it is a reminder but there is an update that fixes the issue of the oil can light not going off even after oiling...item #6 listed in the firmware update actions:

The following issues of the latest Firmware concerning BERNINA 530 and BERNINA 550 have been optimized:
1.) As the minimum speed range was adjusted too hard, precise sewing with slightly pressed foot control was difficult. The sensitivity of the foot control has therefore been revised and optimized.
2.) The piercing support for thick and heavy material has been revised and optimized.
3.) Switching from permanent to temporary sewing in reverse has been optimized.
4.) The Start/Stop-button as well as the Start/Stop-function of the foot control has been precisely synchronized, i.e. the Start/Stop button shows a slightly dimmed stopping attitude.
5.) BSR-Zig-Zag Stitches: the function as for a stitch length shorter than 1.0mm has been optimized.
6.) Die icon of the oiling notification in the display disappears automatically after lubricating (after full elaboration of process)
7.) The personally set balance concerning the respective stitches has been improved for the user.
8.) The stitch patterns: 5, 7 and 1324 have been optimized

There are two icons. One suggests cleaning;the other suggests dealer maintainance.

You won't be able to get a million stitches in before oiling.

Have had my 550 for about 1 1/2 years. Brought in it last November for it's annual cleaning. About a month ago my oil can light came on. Got out the manual and followed the instructions (several times) and it wouldn't turn off. Only had ~92,000 stitches. Finally called my Bernina tech. On the phone he walked me through how to get rid of it. Try calling your tech to see if he/she can do the same for you.

Sorry, that number was not literal. I honestly don't know how many stitches it takes.
