Article about sewing for plus sizes

I will admit that it sounds a bit like this person was the first ever to decide to sew for herself and a little disappointed to not read more about the place she is working from. OTOH, this article does seem to assume that sewing is alive and well and that many people would be interested in this course. I think this may be the second sewing studio to open in these parts, which is pretty exciting!

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

Too bad about that photo though....ye gads...a bit more polish for the photo shoot and a little less of the paper itself doing this to her would be good....my guess is they put in this picture while chortling to themselves.

Mufffet - I know! I can take photos of myself in my sewing room with the time delay on my little digital that look less obviously posed. The newspaper biz just isn't what it used to be. OTOH, I do recall having a photo of myself in the paper when I was in high school that was awful, too. I had my hair pulled back and they managed to make it look like I was completely bald. No - I do not have it clipped and saved.

I know I'm really late to this party, but this quote really annoyed me:

"So two women, both a size 18, will have different fits across different places such as the bust, the bottom, or the waist — variations two size-eight women won’t have."

Two size-8 women absolutely will have variations across different parts of their bodies. Before I was plus sized, I had the same issues I have now fitting into RTW. The difference was that I had many, many more choices, both in sewing patterns and RTW.

Ah - I can see what you mean. I read it that there would be additional issues for plus sizes that non-plus sized alterations would not necessarily work for. Definitely unclear writing.

Enjoyed reading the article. It's all very familiar sounding to plus sized people. I decided several years ago if I was getting a cotton night gown, winter pjs or a decent tee or shell I would need to defeat the fit monster. When I was small sized I could go in stores for days and hunt for something to wear but now it takes 30 minutes in the mall to see the few garments there and part of that time is the walk. I hope she considers making some DVDs.

I did not see this when it was originally posted.

I will have to look into these classes. I am close enough that if they are on a Saturday or in the evening I could take them.
