I'm planning on getting to this one and bringing two wonderful ladies with me. Has anyone ever taken Sarah Veblen's Pants Fitting Concepts class? I was told that these Expo classes don't offer a lot. Crowed classrooms and little time for questions. Any comments about this?

It has been my experience with other sewing expos that you get a lot out of them if they are at your level, and you do your homework about, the presenter, and the topic, and know your specific needs, so that you can ask pertinent questions if the answers that you seek are not addressed.

Have fun, and remember, the rest of the people in the class are there to learn and share, too.
Sometimes I learn more from the students, than the teachers. Way back in the dark ages...the time before sergers....(1970's), another learner and I heard of a machine that cut and sewed at the same time!!!!!!
Within the year, we both owned one!
I do not remember what the course was about, but it was Palmer and Pletch who presented it.

Thank you Pamela. I've been sewing for close to 40 years, but am now addressing the body changes that a lot of us are dealing with in our "golden years". I have the FBA where I want it. But, my ever elusive crotch curve is still in need of tweaking and was hoping this class might turn on a light bulb. However, I did just receive Sarah's Perfect Fitting book and looks like I might be able to wing it from there. I've had such bad luck in the past with pants fitting classes. I have found that most in attendance are beginners and the instructors are iffy. I've found them to be pants "making" classes, rather than fitting classes.
My goal is to attend a Palmer/Pletch class. I have pages falling out of my FFRP book

Part of my homework is to email the teachers well before signing up and paying. I introduce myself and mention how I know about them- took an online class/tutorial, read a magazine article/book, a friend recommended etc. I say a little bit about my sewing history so they know I'm a lifelong learner and not trying to be a pain. I ask if they plan to or can help me with my particular interest. Can they do that during class or might I have a few minutes before/after class? For the Peggy Sager ETA SEWEXPO in southern Ca I drove a day there and another back. It had to be worth my while. The teachers seemed genuinely glad to meet me in person and that I had respected how hectic these show classes can get for them. They love sewing and if you show true interest most will go the extra mile for you. I'm a teacher too and would respond to a student approaching me in this way. It's really efficient because the introduction and back story just needs a little reminder.

I hope you get answers from Sarah. She's great online and she has to be even better in person.

Thanks Wendy. I did take this approach with a woman who did a local class here in Richmond. I honestly don't think I would be asking questions in the classroom at Expo. I usually just like to listen and pick up what I can. I'm wondered how they get so much info in to the little bit of time allotted. I've been looking through her book and working on a pair of slacks today. She says pretty much the same thing that most of the other fitting books do. There are a few new twists to her process, so I'm giving it a go

I'm planning on going but probably for one day only. I haven't figured out what day...it depends on the classes I want to take. I did see that pants fitting class and was thinking I really wanted to try it out. Maybe I'll see you there?? We should all wear. "PR" sticker or something so we can all meet.

Hi knitstitcher. We are going on Thursday. I wish there was some way all us PR folks could find each other. I'll have my name tag on, maybe I'll put a bright PR on it somewhere The three of us are taking the Sarah Veblen pants class and we have also signed up for a class that starts around 9:00. We live about an hour from Fredericksburg, so will have to get an early start. Are you coming all the way in from North Carolina for just the day?

Yes. I'm actually only one mile across the boarder (from VA) into NC. basically coming from Chesapeake, VA. I thought of the same thing...putting PR on my name tag. I'll look for you if I end up in that class.
