I was wondering if anyone has taken a BurdaStyle Webinar. They have some interesting topics, like creating your own sloper and pattern grading. If anyone has experience with these online classes, I'd love to hear about them. Thank you!

Honestly, I receive email invitations to these classes at Burda a lot but haven't tried them. The reason - I haven't found any useful enough to spend $ on.

So.... As for experience in the classes? I can't help there.

Overall, personally, I'm not that enthusiastic about their patterns to spend that amount of $ on the classes. If I were to take a class it would be from PR or craftsy, probably, since I find those two resources more dependable and flexible with design elements.

If you decide to do the class, do let us know how it worked out for you....

I just took their Tailoring Techniques webinar, and I was disappointed by it. I am trying to expand my sewing abilities so that what I make does not look frumpy and home-made. I'm not sure what I was expecting to learn, but I really did not learn much from this. I should have spent my money in a different way. I am hoping that others who have taken a webinar and have had a positive experience will post their experience. I won't do a review because I do not want to cast a shadow on what could be a positive exercise, and I do not know enough (yet) to be able to adequately critique it. Carolyn

I just took a webinar class and was disappointed as well. The video portion of the class was only the slides from the instructors lecture which was accompanied by the audio of the instructor recorded during the original webinar. I wish that there was a place to read and write reviews about each class so I could have made a better decision about spending the money on one.

I signed up for the How to Modify Patterns Course that took place this morning. The only thing I got was taken. I paid them, and got an order confirmation. Thank God I wrote the number down! I never received a confirmation email for my order and I never received the invitation to join the Webinar and I haven't received the information from the Webinar (since I didn't attend haha) either. I've sent 2 emails to their customer service and only received one automated response. I'm going to call my credit card company tomorrow and initiate a chargeback. I'll never try one of these again. $20 is better spend on a book.

I am having the same problem. I signed up for the sewing blog class and it went through and paid them. I never received an email confirmation like they said or access to the class. I have tried calling their customer service line which never answers and tells you to leave a voicemail but the mailbox is full. I emailed them and never received an answer. I then emailed burdastyle directly, and still did not receive an answer. I emailed them again this morning requesting a full refund for the service they have not provided me.

Update: Someone has finally emailed me back from Burda directly after I requested my money be refunded for not providing the service I paid for. I have finished registering for the class. Hopefully the class will be worth the two days of frustration trying to gain access.

I just purchased and viewed "Knitwear Patternmaking: Transforming Woven Patterns For Stretch Fabrics" for $19.99, and it was a total rip off. The presentation was just PowerPoint slides with line drawings for one specific Burda pattern. No explanation for how to apply this to other patterns and styles. The presenter was not very polished, which I could forgive if the content was better. I have contacted Burdastyle about a refund. We will see. I am not planning to do another BurdaStyle webinar at this point. Next time, I will research first and look for a Youtube video!

Ah, I wondered about this class and another one about grading for plus sizes. My main reason for staying away is Craftsy...if I'm patient I can get their classes at half off or even as low as $20.
That's at least 3 hours of instruction with the details instead of 1.

I've been pretty happy with most of the Craftsy classes I've taken. I've managed to get them all at a discount as well. They have added some new, more advanced classes on tailoring and coat making that look good. Especially at a discount they are very worth the money. I like that questions are answered. My fitting class with Lynda Maynard was very good and she helped me solve a fitting issue that had been plaguing me. She's very good.
Oh, I got a free class for my birthday. The offer was for a quilting class which I had no interest in taking, so I wrote them thanks, but no thanks and I got back an email with a link to any class free. I also got an offer awhile back for a free class in anything other than sewing and I did find one that interested me. Once you take a class from them you will get frequent discount offers.
If you don't like the class you have 30 days to request a refund, which I did once and the money was promptly refunded.
