Was just at a Joann's and noted a couple new things:

1-this "deal of the day" business. They now will have 1-3 items on sale, just for one day. Some of the discounts are pretty impressive. I realize it's an attempt to lure you in on a frequent basis, but could save people some dough if stopping at the store isn't out of your way.
I needed casa lace for a niece's wedding and it was 70% off on thurs.

2-I was surprised to find a pretty large collection of fall knits, mostly prints. Many were very soft and very nice. I haven't seen a selection like that there for a long time. I bought a few for fall/winter T's.

3-they had a group of 100% cotton wovens, mostly plaids, that I would probably use for lounging/pj pants. Talk about soft, this stuff is wonderful!

After many years of so-so offerings, I was pretty excited to see this stuff. I went in with no interest in buying anything non-wedding related, and walked out with a bag.

70% off is pretty fantastic and would definitely get me thru the door-- even at JA! Do you have to go in the store to find out the deal of the day or do they do email??

I'm glad to hear they have some nice soft cottons. I remember being able to get those for a song at JA a decade ago. One was a yarn dyed blue and white fabric that reminded me of graph paper which I made into a night gown and wore until it fell apart. It was soooooo soft. I'd love it if they would start stocking things like that.

Thanks for the heads up DFsews!

Good to know, thank you!

I actually bought one of my all-time favorite fabrics (a great quality print acetate slinky) from Joanns. So I know they sometimes have excellent fabric. Sounds like it might be worth a visit to see what they have in my local store.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

I got one of their "how are we doing" surveys in my e-mail yesterday. They even wanted a comparison to Hancocks.

I've gotten that email too JTink! Crucial to be perfectly honest. I buy more fabric at Hancock than JoAnn but mostly buy online. The selection and pricing at the stores isn't compelling.

I did notice those fabrics - I was with my husband and had to proceed directly to the furniture section - I will have to go back and peruse at my leisure :)

Side Note: Is it just me or is the majority of the "Red Tag" table crazy overpriced?

I think the 70% thing is just this week to celebrate their 70th anniversery. As on Sunday there was 70% off the notions wall.

Yes, red tag is definitely more expensive than in the past.

Nonetheless, I've still managed to find a few things there lately when it's been 50% off, including a gorgeous oriental print with geishas and pagodas for which I paid $3/yard and made a skirt and vest, and some flannel for next winter pajamas for $1.50.
(I don't wear synthetics, so what I mostly buy off the red-tag shelf is discount calicos.)

I hope it goes on sale for 50% off soon. There was a home dec fabric that was soooo pretty that I immediately envisioned as a pleated skirt. But I didn't want to pay $9/yd. I'd pay $4.50/yd though...

There was an opinion section on the survey. I gave them an earful about that Red Tag stuff.
