I really do like their website...the selection is great, the prices are competitive, they have good sales and the free shipping is enticing.

BUT, the first time I ordered from them I got shortchanged on my fabric. Like by several inches...enough on one cut that I couldn't make the top I was intending to make...I needed that fabric.

On my most recent order, I ordered some striped knit that ended up being sold out, no problem. They refunded me. But when I got my order, I was thoroughly confused as to why I'd order just 1.5 yards of a suiting fabric (I don't wear many skirts). After wrestling with it I went back and found my email order confirmation -- I'd ordered 2 yards of that wool suiting. They just substituted 1.5 yards without asking me.

Yes, they refunded me for the 0.5 yard but what am I supposed to do with this fabric now?

Meh.

Sorry for that bad fabric experience.

I had a similar experience with a site I ordered buttons from (need to look up the name).
I was excited that they had good quality shirt buttons in all the needed sizes. They sent me 5 when I ordered 12. sigh

MANY years ago I worked for a clothing manufacturer--they had a box you could check on the order form that said "ship complete sets only".
I think these sites need to do the same.

I think I heard that Amazon bought fabric.com out. I have noticed that their "big" sales are like 15% off max. I may buy but will do so only for items that only seem available from them.

I am not a huge fan of Amazon...ugh.

I think the short fabric is more of a deal breaker but then two not-so-good experiences within 2 months makes me mark them off my list.

They should refund you the entire amount. A store should never send less than you ordered! (At least not without specifically asking you.)

Definitely contact them & tell them to refund, & you'd be happy to send it back if they pay the return postage (since it was their mistake).

I think I'll do that Anne. I was just going to settle for making a skirt even though I don't wear skirts much and DEFINITELY not in the winter.

We'll see what they say. Thanks!

sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. i do wish they would have a checkbox or something for what to do if they don't have the full amount available.

i found some old articles from june 2008 saying that amazon had just bought fabric.com

i just hate that they take a long time to ship and then it takes 6 business days in transit to get to me. ugh!

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

I'm glad you're contacting them. They shouldn't be sending you partial cuts-- really they should know better! Please let us know what happens with the CS. I'm interested in hearing how it turns out. I like fabric.com but a partial cut would would make me very unhappy As they specialize in fabric they should understand that you need a certain amount for a project-- or otherwise it's a no go.

I mean, right Chemical!?!? Did the person cutting not stop to consider that I was probably ordering fabric for a project of some sort and that 1.5 yd is VERY different from 2.0!?

Goodness gracious.

I sent an email. Will report back when I get a response.

Fabric.com has a no-hassle return policy. They will pay for return postage. Even if you simply don't like a fabric after receiving it, they will still pay for the return and will refund you 100%. I think they have one of the best return policies going, and I think you'll be happy with that. Still, they shouldn't have shorted the cut ...
