I've noticed there's more than a couple of costume designers and cosplayers here and thought this might be of interest: a show that will be premiering soon on August 13. Sounds like a competition with the usual bits of backstory

They could have called it "Project Cosplay" I'll bet.

With the way things are these days, I bet someone would have had a lawsuit on their hands. But Project Cosplay does seem appropriate.

Another new season Faceoff premiering too: Project Faceoff

I'm a sucker, I'll watch both. I think it's interesting even though I haven't done any cosplay...at least not yet.

Cool! The other half likes the anime part of cosplay and I like the technique stuff. Hope there's not too much angst and drama.

You said it. I love the subjects of a lot of these shows, but the DRAMA and WHINING wear me down. Ugh.

"Project Cosplay" filmed an episode at Kansas City's Planet Comicon back in April, where our friend, a local comic store owner, judged the costume contest. (I, alas, was chained to my booth, so I will have to wait for the episode to air to see anything!) Our hope was that they wouldn't make the costuming community look like buffoons.

It's the Syfy channel, so perhaps the show will be a bit more sympathetic than otherwise. I've never understood how it's ok to sit like a vegetable and watch reruns of "Married with Children" but not ok to be creative and create costumes or stories or whatnot.

Sounds cool that while you couldn't see it happening, you will be able to put the show in a personal context when it airs! :)

Tonight's premier night on the Syfy

Heroes of Cosplay:
Episode 1: Wizard of World Portland
Six of the world's most innovative and passionate cosplayers get ready for Portland's first ever cosplay competition, Wizard World.

Faceoff:
Episode 1: Going for the Gold
Eight newcomers take on eight former contestants as each team creates a series of hyper-stylized fantasy characters.

I don't usually spend so much time watching tv. I think I'll need to plan something I can do while watching or I'll go buggy.

SPOILER ALERT
------------------------
------------------------
-------------------------------

Saw the first episode last night. Oh.. right..yeah... like anyone with sense starts a complex costume project with props inside 1 -2 weeks. Well, I suppose a seasoned professional could do it after work and by living on 4 -5 hrs. sleep a night.
The armor dude on the other hand, seemed more realistic and typical.
I've seen YaYa's costumes on deviant art and it was kind of cool to see her.
Another bonus was learning about Worbla. When I did leg armor for DD's cosplay years ago that product wasn't in the US. Dang, it sounds a lot nicer to work with than Wonderflex. Wonderflex has to be primed and smoothed before painting because of it's gridded texture . I think they have a smoother version now, but never looked into it.

LOL, I'll come back and read your comments once I see the show. For all my posting, I fell asleep before the show premiered and missed it! DOH! I looked for it online, but don't see it anywhere yet. You'd think at Syfy channel would at least upload the initial episode to entice people.
