Simplicity 2174 - Adding a Lining
Adding a Lining to a Dress that Doesn't Call for One

I'm doing Simplicity 2174, View C. It doesn't call for a lining, but the 100% poly fabric that I bought is a bit see through and light-weight, so a lining would definitely help.

If anyone has any tips on how to go about this, I'd appreciate it as I'm still kinda new at this.

Thanks, Jen.

I'm sure someone with a bit more on board will chime in, but here's my thought. I would underline the bodice if your material is sheer and the bodice is form fitting. You could do French seams on your skirt lining and just attach it to waistband of the skirt. The seams may show through the sheer fabric, but you would have more movement in the skirt.

Now that I've learned what underlining is (went off and read about 5 or 6 blogs on the topic), I think that may be the easiest way.

Since I've already cut the dress fabric, is there anything I need to keep in mind when cutting the underlining?

Thanks

I don't think there's anything special you need to remember for the underlining. You just cut the exact same pieces as you did for your garment and stitch each piece to the corresponding piece. You will treat the two as one.
