So confused :(

I am so confused and overwhelmed. I'm trying to decide which machine to upgrade to. One dealer told me the brother Quattro and ellisimo gold is the same machine...is that true? I love the needle cam and would have to sacrifice that for the viking. Also, was told to wait a couple weeks since the new machines may be released...is this true?

Also, how much "bargaining" can I do with add-ons when buying these machines. Can I haggle a bit and ask for extras? I know the machines are price flexible and almost never go for msrp...so I'm okay with that but the rest I'm a little fuzzy about.
Sorry for the compound question....thank you for helping a newbie! Xoxo

Hello and welcome!

Yes, Brother and BabyLock share many features. Brother makes machines for BabyLock to their specification.

Viking is expected to release the a DDD called the Designer Diamond Royale on Sept. 20. The Brother and BabyLock models are expected to arrive by the end of this week.

YES, you can negotiate price, just like car buying. Cash helps. so does hemming and hawing a bit, asking about options(which they may throw in).

Hi Lisa! Brother makes Babylock. They are basically the same machine. Brother has Disney designs. Babylock has Nancy Zieman's designs. New Brother will be released at the end of the week. These two machines are the most user friendly. I would rather sew clothing and accessories on Viking. More presser feet, and sensor system. It seems like the Viking has more on screen editing embroidery features.
Also precise positioning for embroidery, making it easy. Brother does great too. Just whatever you like sewing on the best. They are both good machines. I would never pay close to full price. I love to get the best deal possible. All new top of line machines coming out soon.... brother is coming first. I love the thread cutter on Brother's Dreamweaver foot pedal, and also the reverse. Hands can stay on fabric. There are things I like about each brand, so I try to have one of each brand...lol That and I have SMAD. I'm trying to do better with that, meaning I really am going to sell some of my machines. It's really hard to use them all. But do wait and try out each one. Try out the Pfaff performance if you get a chance too !! You may just like that one the best.

Thank you ladies for the help....and boy do I feel like I need all I can get after talking to all these different dealers. I was very partial to viking until I played with the babylock EG , does anyone know what the new TOL BL will be like? The needle cam is a huge plus for me but the tablet is something I don't consider a "must have".
I don't quilt "yet". But mainly do a lot of home dec projects, costumes, accessories like bags and such for my daughters school. I also do a lot of baby items for the nursery at work. I've been making a lot of blankets for parents to take home after a loss....and I really want the embroidery to be perfect for them...and positioning has been less than stellar...hence, the lean toward the needle cam. Anyway, this makes sense since one of the dealers I've worked with told me to wait until this week to make any decisions ...I'm assuming since the new models may be revealed.

i haven't used the DDD, but I don't particularly like sewing on the Quattro/EG. The embroidery is awesome on the Quattro/EG, I just didn't like how it sews.

Have you tried sewing on the fabrics that you normally use on both of the machines?

------
it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

Each person will tell you what they like - I have the EG and absolutely love it, also have 2 Vikings and love both of them.
What you need to do is try the different machines and see which feels best for you.
When I was looking, I tried each TOL machine and found the EG to be the most user friendly for me, but you may end up liking something else. Take different fabrics to try out and see which features suit you best!
Good luck and have fun! Oh and Welcome to PR!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome everyone. It's nice to finally find a place that isn't dedicated to one brand. I didn't know the DDD had on-screen positioning....that's a huge plus for sure. I spent some time with the hv ruby deluxe and was a bit unimpressed. It was okay but for $500 more why wouldn't I get the TOL. I am going to take some fabrics with me and spend some time playing with the ellisimo and pfaff.
Thank You so much!!

I love sewing on my DDD. It is wonderful. The Sensor lift does away with the need for the knee lift. The sensor lift raises the foot just over your present fabric and not too high.

I loved my prior Brother embroidery machine and still like them a lot.

But, the embroidery is gorgeous on my DDD with beautiful stitches front and back. It is such a beautiful machine but a super strong work horse too.

It is a hard decision.

Welcome to PR! And the Pfaff Creative Sensation and PCP both have Precise Positioning for embroidery, as well.

Have a great time machine-hunting!
