Hi,

I'd like to buy the March 2009 issue of Burda Style and the only copy I've found for sale is a Russian edition, sold by an ebay vendor in the Russian Federation. Has anybody bought anything from that location and can share about their experiences?

I don't read Russian, but I've worked with Burda patterns before and can make do by looking at pictures and numbers. (Finding an English or German edition would be better, of course.) I am more concerned about buying the item from that location.

Can anybody provide any feedback?

Thanks,
Claudia

I have bought a number of scarves and such from ebay sellers based in Russia and have never had a problem. The key, I think, is to look at the vendor's satisfaction ratings at ebay. I look for 100% satsifaction in foreign sellers. You can also read the feedback statements from buyers. That's usually on the lower right hand portion of the screen, as I recall.

I also buy from overseas all the time.. I do not buy from all overseas countries though.. Carefully check out their feedback.. But I do think I should tell you that you need to expect extra time in recieving anything purchased overseas.. sometimes a lot of extra time.. and Nope I am not going to correct my spelling.
Also be aware of the difference in currency. You might be paying a lot more for shipping too.. Additionally if you put it on your credit card you might pay an extra fee..

Good advice above. I just wanted to add that the sewist community in Russia is large and talented, and I wouldn't be afraid of buying from a Russian eBay vendor, if the feedback is good.

There is a tool that pulls up just the negative and neutral feedback for a seller (or buyer, but that doesn't matter anymore). The tool is at:

They do indeed market lovely things that our foremothers used to make as a matter of course, and that have been essentially lost to us.

Well, I placed an order. Too late did I discover that I could have bought the magazine in German, much easier to understand, at ebay.de! O well.

Let's hope the Russian edition makes it here and doesn't attract NSA's attention. :)

I wanted to post back to report that the issues (I ended up buying 2 from the same vendor) arrived in excellent condition and as promised. Shipping took just about 2 weeks.
