After reading sewcooknmom's thread about conquering buttonholes plus a thread a month or so ago (that I can't find!), I want to ask...what new skill have you acquired?

I think thinking about it, and sharing can go a long way to boost confidence!

I learned to do blind hemming on my machine. It went good (not great, definitely not perfect) but I was VERY proud of myself!

Well, I made my first muslin, using the techniques described by Nancy Zieman in her Pattern Fitting with Confidene. I am a plus-size; with a sway back and a very wide derrier. The dress I made *fits* and I am so pleased. Carolyn

I've been totting up lately and since January I've managed to do wearable invisible, lap (only one yet), centred and fly zips! And I am no longer discouraged by ripping seams, rather I look forward to the improvement, how cool?!

Love your posts MrsCharisma, always get me thinking LOL

Blind hemming is very confusing. I've done it but can not say I can do it. Each time it's a new upside down jigsaw for me. *whew*

OMG I was so flustered! It takes some patience and excellent lighting, IMO. Thanks for the compliment and GREAT JOB on those zips!!! I'm still fearing the lapped zipper after doing two horrendous versions. :)

Teething troubles... lol

I am off this week so yesterday I started a top. I don't know why, but with tops I find it difficult to decide what to make. Anyway today I was putting in sleeves and was VERY careful to match the notches having found out some time ago, the hard way, that 2 notches (back) and 1 notch (front) DO have a significance LOL
So I very carefully matched 1 notch to 1 notch and 2 notch to 2 notch. I did a beautiful job gathering (many pins) and it sewed up nicely. Fabulous.

Then, I turned it all right side out to try on.... the sleeve was inside out LOL
Paying careful attention to one specific thing I seem always to overlook another, ending up having to do things twice, at least!

The lapped zipper wouldn't be my favourite, no, but I did learn how to add that zipper guard which I might use with the invisible side zip if I do one again... got a little pinch from one today, ouch! not so nice.

That's fantastic Carolyn! Well done

I'm not nearly so ambitious yet, just selecting easy things I can do for quick gratification. I'm still afraid to commit to a 'real' project

Well, you already know mine. Sewing buttonholes. I want to add that all that day and the next few days, I have felt more confident with my sewing. Yep, all because of conquering my fears of buttonholes. Lol!

Here's the link that I was talking about in the other thread.
Buttonhole placement

Fun thread, Mrs.Charisma!

No new skills for me today, our electricity was out. Good chance to get a bit of cleaning done, and to get out and about on a surprisingly nice day :)

I'm getting an urge to do a floppy shirt/blouse, something light... might make an attempt at practising buttonholes tomorrow. These threads are very encouraging :)

Anyone do something new today??

Our power was out too and I had a 12 hour work day. No sewing for me today. :(
