I just bought an expression 2034 (made in 2003/2004), and it seems to be the first Pfaff in my experience where a toe tap doesn't work for needle up/down. I know it works on the 2023, and all of the newer models that I have sewn with.

It does have a needle down button, but that isn't the point.

Has anybody else found that toe tap works on some machines but not others? I'm trying to figure out if it is a problem with my machine or if it just didn't work with that model. I did, for the sake of troubleshooting, try the foot pedal from the 2023. It did not allow me to toe tap either.

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

There should be some information on that in your manual.
If you don't have a manual you can usually find them online.

it is in the manual for the 2023 (no needle up/down button) but not the 2034 or 7510 (both have needle up/down button) that i can find.

i wonder if it doesn't work on the older machines that i have a needle up/down button.

hmmmm

I believe none of the Pfaffs had that feature until they were acquired by the company that also sells Viking and Singer. The Viking machines have had the toe tap needle up/down since the early 90s, late 80s...

I have a 2027 and use the pedal for the needle up/down position.

The 2023 has the toe tap, your 2027 has the toe tap...

It seems strange that the 2034 would not have it!

I know for sure the 7510 does not have the toe tap and I'm 99% sure the 2034 doesn't have it either. The 2034 is a an updated version of the 2030 and the 2030 & 2040 do not have toe tap.

Thanks, Renee. It is mildly annoying to not have it, but it sews amazingly well.

I wish there was an upgrade like the Bernina heel tap pedal I bought for my B350.

Oh me too, I'd love a toe tap foot pedal for my 7550 and 1171. But even without the toe tap or a knee lift my old Pfaffs are keepers.
