Hi! Any sewers in Montreal want to get together? I am new to Montreal from the US, and it seems like there is a lack of a sewing community here. It would be great to get a group of sewers together and go check out the fabric shops on St. Hubert together, and share our projects together. If anyone is interested, let me know! My French is not very good yet, so English would be my primary language of communication. :)

Deepika, I am new here so I'm afraid I wouldn't be a great tour guide, but let me know if you want to get together for some fabric shopping! I have only been to one place so far - Fabricville in downtown Montreal - and they are having a warehouse sale until the 20th so I got some cool black sheer fabric to make an Archer shirt for $2.99/meter. There are supposed to be some interesting shops along St. Hubert Street that I'd love to visit too.

The meetup on the 17th was our second. We'll probably have another, maybe in the fall? October? Other places you can meet sewists include the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild and Effiloché, a local sewing and knitting lounge. There is also Fripe Fabriquebut I haven't been there, and a number of places in town that offer sewing classes.

Hello Montrealers,

I had so much fun in Montreal at the last sewing bloggers meet-up (August 17th) that I decided to organize a visit to the Montreal's Costume and Textile Museum in September 2013.

So if you are interested, here is the invitation on my blog : http://igloovert.blogspot.ca/2013/08/montreal-sewing-club-at-museum.html

Cheers!

Caroline

Hey everyone. So I'm newer to Mtl too, been here since May. I'm more interested in menswear right now and I'm probably newer to sewing than lots of people, have been doing it regularly for maybe a year, but before that I did stuff from time to time. Anyway, keep me posted on stuff in town too, especially as fall and winter come and we'll all be less interested in the great outdoors and more interested in sitting around with a cup of wine...... i mean hot chocolate, yea.... :s..... sewing.

As for me, right now I'm on a menswear kick like I said. I'm thinking of doing like 6 shirts in 6 weeks once my new flat-felling foot comes in the mail.
