It has been a long time since i downloaded any designs for my machine, and now i am lost on where to begin. Most of my online is on a Ipad these days, I do have a stripped down laptop, and i do have an external drive...just dont know where to start.

Will designs work with a ipad? Are there any software?

Please help! I want to be able to use my machine again.

no, no embroidery software for embroidery designs I know about for the ipad. Can you actually store files on it? I didn't think you could just apps. You could download basic Embird but I think there are a few free programs out there. To better help you what machine do you have and how do you get designs to it?

I have an I-Phone and two apps have helped me when I'm traveling and don't take my computer.

"Downloads Lite" allows you to download up to seven designs onto your device (the full version, for a couple of dollars, allows unlimited downloads) before you have to e-mail to yourself or some people send them to "Dropbox".

The other app is "Stitch Buddy", it allows you to look at the design from "Downloads" and it gives you basic information about the design such as a picture, color list, size, number of stitches, etc. It will also allow you to send the file to your e-mail.

You still need to get the file from your computer (once you've e-mailed and saved it) to your machine. I don't know if your I-Pad will allow you to use a flash drive. Wouldn't that be nice and simple!

Since I do not believe that an Ipad has a USB drive I think you may have to use your old PC. With the PC you can get a design online and save to your USB drive and then take the USB to your machine, as long as it has a USB dive. If your machine does not, then you must have an adaptor for the machine that uses some type of card.

You sound just like me but I have forgotten how to embroidery! I have been saving designs in Evermore (zipped) and will email them to my computer when I'm not feeling quite so lazy!

Oops that should have been "Evernote".

Drawings has an app called Snap that works on the ipad. I just downloaded it last week but haven't played with it much.

Evernote is a great way to capture designs you want while on your iPad and browsing the Internet. Both Evernote and SB can sync with Dropbox to store your files. But DB can be pricey if you have more files than allowed in a free account.
You can pick up an external drive or even a memory stick to store them. You can baby your old computer just enough to get you to an embroidery site and download the files to your external drive.
Or select the option to get an email link. Then use your iPad to open the link and let Stitch Buddy tweak what you need and save it to DB.

Right now machines still need a USB to transfer designs but a new wave of machines is hitting soon that will include WIFI for direct transfers.
I would not be surprised if some TOLs were given the ability via upgrades to use their secondary USB ports for connecting to a WIFI device (like computers did about 12 years ago). Or some other interface will hit the market to allow internet designs to go directly into EM for editing or stitch out.

Computers are becoming more obsolete in this next generation of users. The focus seems to be on using the online files and end user products and less about needing to create your own product or manage your files with software in your own computer.

So I think you will see major advances in iPads and Androids and embroidery machines.
