Today I was going to the fabric store with a friend, who Im making a quilt for ,and had to have her drive back because I forgot to bring the pattern with me.

She does not live in town and was taking (what I thought) was the long way home and I spotted a "something" on the horizon. I was not wearing my glasses - so that was across the st.

She thought it was a side table - I knew it was a machine!

Anyhow - I brought it home and played with it a bit.

Here is a pic -

I like the sound of the machine - is it possible its quieter than the 15-91? It does a ZZ and SS - and has a place for cams. It did not have any extras and is rough - but seems to sew nice. I have not cleaned it at all yet.

I would like to take it out of the desk - and put the desk out for someone else to take. Would that be blasphemous? The desk is not is great shape and I dont really have room for it - I do not think either part is worth any money - but, maybe there are not other cases the machine will fit in or some odd thing like that?

Im planning to play with it for awhile as a table top machine and see if I want to keep it. I have room for machines that do not take up lots of space.

Any links to places I can find more information would be helpful and appreciated. I tried searching the oracle and looking through machine reviews. I cant find much on this model at all.

...on the horizon, without your glasses...and across the street...you knew...it was a machine! Too cool.

Looks like a lot of fun...enjoy.

The little Kenmore is out of the desk.

I gave it one very brief wash - and played with stitching on it.

The machine looks cute in the pic - but I can see it needs far more cleaning than I thought.

So far I like playing with the machine - the needle stops faster than the needle on the 15-91 does. The 15-91 kinda keeps sewing a few stitches after I release the pedal.

What a great find!! I've been doing some research on my Kenmore 158.19412 & was directed to a Yahoo group for vintage Kenmores which has
proved helpful. You might want to join that group.

I have tried to join a few different yahoo groups - Im sure there is good info in them -- I have not been successful figuring out how to search or read other topics than simply first to last -- and that takes a load of time.

Have you had better luck with yahoo groups?

I haven't seen any free manuals online for this model. But Sew USA has pdf downloads for $10 here.

Thank you for the link Helen!

After I got the needle in the right way - it was ready to sew perfect little stitches.

Well, the one I'm referring to has a lot of info in their "files" section which you can access one you are a member. Yesterday I posted an intro listing my machine model #
& specific questions I had & have already gotten 2 helpful replies.
Hope that helps.

I just joined the moderated Yahoo group dedicated to vintage Kenmores. I hope to find some sources for more feet. I don't see the manual available in their files section for your model. But hopefully, one of the groups will have members who own your same model machine and can help. Knowing how to insert the needle is pretty important!

It never occurred to me to find a Kenmore Yahoo group but they're out there and with lots of members. Here's to our quest for what we need to get the most out of our elder Kennys.
