I just received the latest Bernina newsletter from my dealer stating the new 880 was being released this fall. Have the bugs been workedbout of the 700 series? Any one have information on this new machine?

Looking around on various blogs

fourteen thousand dollars
new software/GUI. Might be similar to 7 series software.
foot control tap can be programmed to do other things besides control needle up and down, such as tieing off and cutting the thread.

No info other than it is an 8 series. Basically an 830/830LE with the 7 series screen, software and a couple more new additions.

Check the board here about all the problems the 7 series is causing their poor, frustrated owners.

Re price: I think they've gone nuts. That's way out of my ballpark, anyway, and I don't mind paying off a dream machine. But with all Bernina's issues on recent models, no way. Of course we all know the actual price will be less, but still...

When a sewing machine costs as much as a new car, I think it's time to step back and think vintage.

I had set a goal to purchase the new update 830 machine (so it would be the 880)....but the $$$ shock plus all the problems with the 7 series and continuing problems with them makes me not interested in the least. I was surprised that they are releasing a new machine with problems still pending on the 7 series. I am curious what everyone knew as I haven't kept up.

I paid $10,500 for my 830LE two years ago -- more than I ever, ever thought I would be able to swing for a sewing/embroidery machine. As much as I love my 830LE, I don't think I'll ever sink that much money into a machine again. I certainly am not entertaining the idea of trading for the 880.

Me too. And I am not anywhere near interested in buying another TOL anytime soon. I sure do love my 830LE though. And I loved going to the VIP retreat. The 880 sounds very cool, but not cool enough to make me even slightly tempted.

Forget a new car, that is almost 1/2 of a year of college for my daughter. And I will be paying college tuition for at LEAST 5 more years (2 daughters.)

I'm with you. I love my 820, and it's been trouble-free, fun, and capable. Most of the time, it's more machine than I need, a huge luxury. I can enjoy it without guilt or regrets because it performs equivalent to its price.

I cannot imagine the sick feeling of spending thousands for a defective machine and getting the run-around from the dealer and/or manufacturer.

All my Berninas have been absolutely worth their prices, but it seems there's a bigger element of risk to these high-end machines than I realized. So I doubt there's any $$$ machines in my future.

I've gotten so much enjoyment from my 1030, my next upgrade will probably be a custom cabinet for the 820, or a suitable cabinet for the 1030.
