We are about to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and my DH surprised me yesterday with a brand new Brother Duetta 2 4750D sewing/embroidery machine!!!

He has made fun of me in the past as he walks by my sewing room and I'm sitting staring at my Bernina working away with nothing to do but wait to change threads.

I told him that I needed a second machine so I could be piecing or quilting while the other machine is doing embroidery but I didn't think he was paying attention!

I can't say how happy and excited I am to get this all set up and start playing. I've named her Ariel (as she is my favorite Disney character) and she looks so sweet and innocent sitting on the desk next to the BIG BERNINA 830!!

Here is my question though....I have a fairly large embroidery library on my computer and because the only machine I owed until yesterday was my Bernina, all of my designs were downloaded in ART format. These do not read on the Brother machine which is PES.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to use these designs without having to download them all again in PES format?

The only software I have (besides Bernina Artlink) is Embrilliance. Not sure yet if this will work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Karen

Apparently you should be able to do this in Bernina's Artlink.

Look in Artwork for an export feature. That will allow you to convert ART types to most other file types. You should be able to open the ART file and either export or save it as a PES file. That process is called converting. Then use Embriliance to modify the PES file for your Brother.

One reason I avoided buying Bernina designs is that they are about the only file types that are proprietary. They will not share their coding so that other software can be used to manage Bernina designs. The others (Brother, Janome, Pfaff, Babylock, etc) have shared their coding so those file types can be converted fairy easy by most software on todays market.

I just found this which may work:
http://www.embroiderydesigns.com/convertdesignfileshome.aspx

If you are a member, you can upload your ART files to Emb Designs and they will convert them to PES for free. Might be worth the cost of a short term membership.

Apparantly Artlink will open and convert PES to ART but not the other way around. Bummer. But Embrillance can read the ART file and write to PES.
I would not do your entire library- just tackle them as you use them.

I have 3 main folders under my Emb Designs folder. One for JEF, one for PES and one for MultiFormat. Others may keep them in the same place but I like them separate.

Thanks for your suggestions SandiMacD. I've just slowly started downloading my designs again in a new PES folder and plan to keep them separate. I am about 3/4 of the way through my library so it's not too bad. I read the fine print in embroiderylibrary.com and found I was able to download as many times as I wished and in whatever format I wanted so I simply converted my whole order history to PES and started making my way through it!! Going forward I will download new purchases into the PES folder because I did discover as you mentioned that Artlink will convert to ART.

Hi, The Duetta 2 is the same as the Duetta 4500D which is the machine that I bought last August. You will like it a lot. It was the top of the line before the Quattro machines were introduced.

This may be extraneous information, but, when I use Embrilliance Essentials, no matter what design format I open with, it will save the design in my default format (the format I indicated in Embrilliance preferences). I must admit, downloading your order history from emblibrary in a new format sounds easiest. Isn't emblibrary wonderful.

ps

Imachinegroup.com is having a sale on their isacord embroidery thread sets. Mind you I think it's the price I've been used to only they are increasing the price so......50 spools for $150 going up to $172.50 after Aug. 31st. Since I have been collecting their thread sets I am going to get 2 more (My Man is pretty good too!) before the price goes up. I really like the thread; but, this last purchase will have to last me a while. My husband is convinced that embroidery machines are like printers, they sucker you in to buy the thread (substitute ink for printers).

Can anyone please give me an idea of the price for the Brother Duetta 4750? I love the description of it.

Thanks so much
