Hi everyone,

I bought some cotton-poly blend fabric that has a bit of stretch because I loved the colour and the matte monochromatic stripes on it. I want to make pants. What I didn't realize until I got home was that the stripes are on the cross-grain, going from selvage to selvage. What do I do? Can I cut pants on the cross-grain. What are the pros and cons of this? Any advice is appreciated.

May I ask you in what direction your stretch is.
If the stretch Goes from selfedge to selfedge and you want to turn 90 degr. then you have something to bother about. I know that there exist pant blockpatterns for lengte stretch and that they differ in shape from pants with stretch from selfedge to selfedge.

There is a lot of stretch on the lengthwise grain and very little on the cross-grain (selvage to selvage).

Then you should be fine. You normally want the direction of greatest stretch to be around your body. So if you cut your pattern on the cross of this fabric, that's what you would end up with.

Okay great! I will try it then...I just fell in love with this fabric and failed to notice the matte stripes were running the wrong way. Thanks for your help.
