My three DD were given cute tankinis by grandma, but the girls are so slim, my 8 yr old fits the size 6 the best.....

I thought I could just sew the tops to the bottoms to make a one piece, but have not worked with swimware before.

Is there anything special I need to know about working with swimsuits?

What type of thread and needle should I use?

I have a non electronic Singer from the early 90's with about 20 types of stitches, I assume I would use a zigzag stitch?

Thanks!

Kimber

If I was doing this, I would do a semi-permanent fix, so I could take the suit apart next year for more wear. I would overlap the top on the bottom and stitch around. Where I would stitch would depend on the design, print and where the elastic is on the bottom.
Use a 'stretch' needle (not ballpoint) and stitch with a zagzag.
For a permanent fix, I would remove the elastic from the bottom, and the hem from the top and stitch them neatly together. You might also have to alter the sides with that method.

------
My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Oh good idea to take the waist elastic and top hem out! It will be a permanent alteration...

Thanks!
