I just got an email from Judith at Josephine's Dry Goods (sells the best fabric in Portland) saying she is retiring and closing the store the end of September. While I could not afford a lot of the fabric, it has been wonderful to drool over Josephine's fabrics.

Josephine's, we will miss you.

Visited several years ago when ASG Conference was in Portland. What struck me most were the clothing samples sewn from Vogue patterns. More typical in US are the more "artsy/quilty/ embroidered independent patterns shown by most machine dealers who also sell fabric. Of course, the fabrics were current as well.

She ran a true fabric store. Glad I still have several "souvenirs"!

When I lived in MT I would make trips to Portland for stuff. Loved Josephines- such good service. They even offered to help me shop over the phone and UPS it out to me. That will be one sorely missed business.

Really sad news!! My daughter lives in Portland and Josephine's was a destination on almost every visit. We even took the Party Dress class Mary Adams did there. I loved that store. Just to see all that beautiful fabric was a treat. Thanks for all the good memories and good wishes to all the knowledgeable and helpful staff.

Such good news, that someone took the business over. In Kansas City the fabric store (Kaplans) on the plaza closed early this year. They would have sold but no one stepped up to buy it.

I was just reading on a thread about Joanns and the love/hate relationship people tend to have with them. So many sewists dislike the crafty stuff, but selling just fabric makes it hard to pay the bills.
