One of my dance clients is travelling to Houston and would like to look around for fabrics for her upcoming dress plans. We went out locally on Thursday and came up with a total of 2 alternatives after going to 3 stores and neither were really what we were looking for.

Any suggestions?????

High Fashion Fabrics is probably our best fabric store with fairly wide variety. They are known most for bridal & fancier fabrics with sequins, beading, lovely silks, designer wools. Not sure what kind of dance you are shopping for. They do have a pretty wide selection of Lycra.

Thank you -- it is for country ballroom. I keep a good supply of all the basics on hand. My client is looking for some prints for different programs she will be doing. Would definitely like something with some spandex in it .

I'll pass on the information.

Anyone else?????

In my opinion Houston is not a fabric mecca. Other than Hancocks, Joanne's, and High Fashion Fabrics there is Southern Importers that has a lot of costume/dance fabrics. http://southern-importers.com/costumeaccessories/fabrics.html
The Houston area does have several nice quilt shops...Sew Contempo and the Quilt Emporium are two that come to mind.

In a pants making class I took a couple years ago someone asked the instructor where the best place in Houston to buy garment fabric. Without skipping a beat the instructor said "Dallas".

High Fashion fabrics has already been mentioned. There is also Universal Fabrics known for high end silks and such but I have never been.

I buy all my garment fabric on-line
