I just read the post about wifi on the new Janome... not being that tech savvy does this mean... you can surf the net while at the machine?!!! A couple/customers who bought a Brother Quattro from me yesterday, who's in the tech industry was asking half jokingly if you could get wifi since the machine has such a nice big screen. I said I thought it very cool when the old 4000D could be upgraded to work an external CD drive/mouse, but I'd often pondered what would run off that USB port... the plug in little LED booklight my son got me? Or digital photo frame? The coffee warmer tray with USB plug to sit by your laptop? Something else?
Really, has anyone actually tried any of these non sewing items? Inquiring minds...

I'm guessing the new wifi feature will enable your computer to "see" the sm as an external device, so you can drag and drop embroidery designs into it. Anybody know??

Let's just say all modern sms are well represented in my studio.

Janome now has two apps in the iTunes store that will work for the Janome 15000. One is AcuEdit. All of the editing and such that you normally do on the screen on a combo machine can now be done on your iPad...so you can create and edit while at the doctor's office, etc. if you want. When you are ready to embroider, you simply send it to the machine using wi-fi. You can be standing in front of the machine with your iPad and send it. No need to connect any cables or transfer to a USB to put in the machine. Voila!

Janome just added a new app called AcuMonitor, which allows you to leave the room and monitor the progress of your embroidery. So, say you are in the kitchen making some lunch and it will show you if you have a thread break. A color bar runs across the bottom of the screen, telling you what color is being embroidered at that time and what color will be coming up next.

It's not a web-surfing tool. You are using an app for embroidery designs only. Remember the Singer Izek that used a Gameboy to choose stitches? This is a very updated, no cords version.

Provided that Janome can keep on top of security, it's about time. Sneakernet is so last century...

As for being able to surf the net-- well, my printer is connected to my network, and it can't surf the web. It's just convenient to be able to print from any one of several computers in my house.

I wish my camera was wireless. Many times, I've left my memory card at my computer. It's so annoying to carefully setup the tripod, adjust the aperture and exposure time just so, and have the perfect shot be ruined by "NO SDCARD."

It's called the "Internet of Things". It's the future.

Ooooh!!! AcuMonitor would also allow you to see if your sewing machine(s) are making illicit unauthorized online purchases with your credit cards! Or surfing channels they know they aren't supposed to be surfing, while you're away at work. Or getting up to mischief in general.

Sewing machine spy cam! I like!

Oh. Only for monitoring embroidery. Never mind.

That monitoring function is very cool! In all the years I've been embroidering I think only one of the times my machine's messed up was when I was watching it or nearby.

It would be neat if we could plug in other things to work through the usb.

Hi Andye, there is an SD card solution called Eye Fi. I have used it for about 5 yrs now. The SD card is wifi enabled. It comes paired with a USB dongle type device that goes into your computer and accepts the SD card.
Upon first arrival you insert the USB piece into your computer and then the EyeFi SD card into that. A program launches so you can set up your preferences to allow the SD card to work via wifi to transfer your pictures to your computer and auto upload them to your online photo site.
Next you remove the SD card and put it in your camera.
I selected an email notification preference. Whenever I take a picture it is automatically stored in a specific folder on my computer and uploaded to my online photo site. An email is sent to me letting me know when each batch og images was successfully received.
You might want to give it a try.

Thanks for the info. Since I shoot raw, not jpeg, I'll have to keep an eye peeled for ProX2 sales.

Hopefully they will take this a step further and allow the wifi to surf the net so you can buy and download embroidery designs without needing a computer or a smart phone or tablet. The technology is there. You can now download apps with your playstation so I can watch youtube on my big tv. Probably could for a while but I was just playing around and discovered it. I'm curious to see what th 15000 will cost when is it supposed to be introduced?
