I finally found a RTW pair of yoga pants that fit great for exercise and around the house. They were Danskin Now pants carried at Walmart. As usual, when something works great, it's discontinued. They are still carrying them now, but with a different fabric, no pockets and crotch length way too short (about 1 1/2 shorter than same size of prior pair). Any one know of a simple pattern for a yoga pant and if so, another question is where would I purchase fabric for it.

Thank you all.

I think this is one of the easier things to create from RTW. One of my very first projects was duplicating yoga pants for my (15 yo) daughter.

Kwik Sew 3115 has gotten fantastic reviews. You can compare the pattern to see if it's close to your RTW (or copy your RTW pair if you're up for that).

A lot of people have gotten ponte from Fabric.com in the past, I think it was the Sophia knit. Sometimes places like Spandex world carries stuff that works well. There's also a Canadian place that carries Lululemon fabric, but I can't remember the name off the top of my head. I'm not impressed with my Lululemon pants, so I didn't save the link.

If someone knows where Nike gets their doubleknits, I'd love to know!

I like Silhouette's 3400. I've made it a bunch of times. It doesn't have pockets, so you'd have to add those if that's something you really want.

For fabric, I've used Sophia Knit for these.

Silhouette Patterns #3400

Sophia is a double knit fabric (67% Polyester/30% Rayon/3% Spandex) sold at Fabric.com. It just happens to be on sale through 8/26/13. Another possible source is House of Fabrics. Just Google "Sophia Double Knit" and you'll find other sources and information about it.

Oh I like that Kwik Sew! It looks like the band is a bit lower, i.e. below waist (waist? What's that?). I have made and like the Silhouette one also but in the future I would shorten the top again for a lower waist and amend to use wider (i.e. 3") elastic.

That said I tried the Silhouette modified Yoga Pant #3011
and I REALLY like it, fits me much better than the original.

That one is really nice, can you post a photo of it ? or a link?
I don't see any reviews of it at all & the website photo is too
dark to make it out. thanks in advance

I agree the Silhouette pattern #3400 Yoga pant is great. I have made it several times (although I have never posted a review -Oops!) I recently just made it again and added cuffs/pockets side inserts, too. It is a great fitting pattern right from the envelope and a good base pattern to alter with different designs.

The first couple of yoga pants I sewed I just used the 'ponte roma' knit from JoAnn's (can't beat that 40% off coupon) and although this is a stable knit (not to much stretch) and quite easy to sew, it surely doesn't wear as well as a more expensive ponte roma. But, even so it is a nice fabric to start off with and then go to a more expensive fabric for the second, third, fourth . . . . pair.

Jalie also has a great yoga pant pattern. Very RTW in fit and styling. Sews together super fast. I've made 3 for myself, and some for my teenage daughter as well. Can't recommend them highly enough.
