Hi,
I'm making a pair of fly-front pants in wool. Wool makes me really itchy so I want to fully line them (not underline). But I don't know how to deal with the fly area. Does anyone know of a tutorial on this? Or have any tips for me?

I have no idea how to line fly-front pants, sorry. But one idea is to underline your scratchy fabric in something softer on your skin, then proceeding with the construction as usual.

Oh I just noticed from your first post that you don't want to underline. Sorry--I guess I haven't helped a bit!

Thanks for answering anyway!

I don't want to underline because then my skin will be exposed to the wool at the seams. Unless I did some complicated finishing... Anyway it's too late for underlining because I've already made the front pockets.

I'm watching as I have wondered about lining things when a pattern doesn't include the lining. I don't know where it "goes". Hopefully someone will chime in!

I don't have an answer for your question but you could make the lining into a separate pair of pants with a narrow elastic waist and wear them under your wool pants.

Another plus would be less dry cleaning. You could launder the lining and the pants wouldn't need cleaning as much.

I have lined fly front pants. Don't know if this is proper way, but this is what I did:
I cut front and back from lining fabric removing the fly piece (because I will turn this edge under when I catch stitch it to the inside of pants). Sew the lining together at sides and inseam. Insert the lining (wrong sides together) into your pants and stitch it under your waistband.
Hem: I would hem the pants and lining separately.

Thanks!

So would you attach the lining to the back of the fly facing piece? After the fly topstitching? Or would you try to tuck it in there before the topstitching?

The January 2012 issue of Threads had an article/tutorial on how to line fly front pants. If you are an Insider, you can download the PDF from their website - if not, maybe get the issue from the library?
