This is a lovely dress! And the thinking behind the pattern itself amazing. She really is innovative. I love it - I just wish she had a picture of herself wearing it:) Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much! I haven't figured out how to take reasonable photos of myself. So until I do my dress dummy will have to suffice.

I have learned a huge amount about the basic shapes of garments from both Burda magazine and the Japanese sewing books and magazines. I know there are lots of people here on Pattern Review who love to make technically difficult garments. I like making garments that are simple to create but flatter the body.

I'm also really happy that the surgery went well.it really wasn't all that serious but it was a first for me. I am usually a pretty rational person but I invested in a small bit of magical thinking. Clearly if I had greater stock in the power of magical thinking I would have invested both more time and more money into the dress.

I'm so glad you are healthy and everything went okay too.

Your dress reminds of something a good friend always says - simple pattern, great fabric.

I was thinking too (I'm more of a pear) that I could angle out from the bust in an A-line to the length I want. Then the side seams could be pin fitted and marked.

Once the muslin was done, it's off to EOS for silk jersey right?

Sarah - I'm seriously thinking about making this.

When I look at your drawing, I have two questions though.

First - do we cut two exact pieces? Maybe I missed it ...

Second - I don't the wording is correct across the bust or I'm not reading it right. Bust + 3" on 1/2 of a pattern piece meant to be cut twice??

Is it "Bust + 3" divided by 4?

I predict this will be a top pattern of 2013.

The way I read it, you want a lot of ease at the bust to get the drapey neck?

After your question I wasn't 100% sure I interpreted that right, but that's what I thought.

I don't want this as a dress, but I love the look for a knit top. I'm going to try it after some clarification.
