Any ideas or suggestions? I'd to make a jacket like this one, but have no idea how the collar is drafted... any one know how?

Not at all like the rest of your desired object, but you could maybe take the collar/neckline from this and draft it onto a slimmer jacket than this Marcy Tilton one. It looks relatively simple.

It's Vogue 8653, if the link doesn't work.

It's a big rectangle. All the pattern companies have it right now, but this one is easy to sew and gives instant gratification: Sewing Workshop eShrug.
I made it in a wool double-knit in the long version, which gives you the lovely waterfall collar.

Aha! Thank you to both of you for the insight! I think I might be able to figure it out. The pictures from the Vogue jacket with the collar laying flat was a big help. Now I understand how the collar falls into place. Going to try and draft it onto a more fitted jacket.

But I really like the simplicity of the Sewing Workshop pattern too. I think I'll order it and make a jacket like that one too. Cold season is coming and it will be perfect to throw on... and it looks so quick to make.

If you have the fabric it's about 3 hours, including drafting the long sleeve pattern. There are two shoulder/neck seams and the sleeve seams. I didn't finish the edges. I keep thinking about it and then deciding why bother?

The pic you show looks like it's a modified rectangle, shorter on the upper edge than on the neck edge.

I looked through my drafting book and it doesn't have a waterfall collar or anything similar, but I think I can use a shawl collar draft and extend the collar to make it into the waterfall. Do you think that'll work?

Probably. Looks like the collar on the model is inset at the front, but whether it's a fitting feature or a design feature, I can't tell.

I took a class with Kenneth King and he took a piece of paper and folded it to get the desired effect and that's the pattern. This looks like a square drawn onto the front edge. It also looks like it's based on a shawl lapel that meets in the center back with a short seam.
The easy way to do this is to take the page that has the drawing of all the pattern pieces and copy the needed pieces. Enlarge them to a size that's easy to work with and play around in paper with the right shape.

Excellent idea. I'm going to try that. The jacket pattern I'm using has a basic one piece shirt collar so changing the front to a shawl shouldn't be too difficult. Then I can work from there to do the waterfall.

Thanks!

Dale,
This look is everywhere!
Here is the line drawing from my Lutterloh pattern book

and here is the garment.

I like the idea of making this out of faux suede. It gets chilly here in winter...well it feels that way for us!

You can use your shawl collar and mimic this shape.
Can't wait to see how yours turns out!
