Okay, I waited patiently all through last week to find out what was new and what was discontinued, what was launched and for how much, and so on. I heard the Ovation is a supercharged serger with a hefty price tag, but do we really need it? I want to know if the SYMPHONY was discontinued as rumored. I want to know if the Crescendo is still around and so on. So, please, if you were there or you know of someone who was, please give us an idea of what happened at the Convention.

Babylock introduced the following new machines this year.

Ovation-Serger
Endurance II - 6 Needle embroidery machine
Ellisimo Gold II - Sewing/Embroidery machine
Journey - Sewing/Embroidery machine
Aria - Sewing/Quilting machine
Rachel - Sewing machine

The Endurance II adds the needle beam that shows you where your needle will drop, as well as a better screen, and a few extra designs. The Ellisimo Gold II also adds the needle beam as well as the multi-function foot control, some extra large font sets and a few buttonhole designs.

The Journey, to me, is an updated version of the Ellegante and I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinue that model soon. It appears Babylock is moving towards this "new shape" in their machines as well as improving the screen resolution. The Journey is just below the Unity and above the Ellegante. It has pretty much all the features of the Ellegante, but lacks the digital dual feed foot, needle beam, and the sensor pen that the Unity comes with (although the needle beam foot is an optional accessory). All in all, though, the Journey is a NICE machine with some great features.

The Aria is exactly like the Crescendo, but without the sensor pen, guide beam for sewing, extension table or the digital dual-feed foot. But the extension table and dual-feed foot can be purchased separately. With the Aria being released, I can't imagine why they would keep producing the Symphony at this point. The Aria is a much nicer machine, in my opinion, with the color LCD screen, throat space and lighting. As for the Crescendo, that is BL's top of the line sewing machine and they just released it last year. So it is definitely still around.

The Rachel replaced Grace, I believe and has about 10 more stitches. Pretty much the same machine, I think.

I'm sure on all these machines, there are differences in the stitches and/or designs available, but these are the major differences.

Thanks! I got an email from my dealer to reserve a special place for unveiling plus a deep discount for Upgrade IV on my Ellisimo.
I wonder if it is the laser?

their symphony is still on their site as a current model so I don't think its been retired because it would have been moved to the previous models page

Know the Ovation will by expensive, does anyone know where I can a price quote? It has all the new features I want. Knee lift, larger sewing area and front presser foot lift knob as well as a speed control and better lighting.

From what I am reading, the Ovation is still a Serger. Can it be worth the price? If it were a Serger/sewing Machine Combo, I Would Consider it, but if it is still just a SERGER I think I'll stick with my ImagineĽ Please Comment. Why would I Spend $6,000 on a larger Serger? Having a larger plate area and a knee thing isn't worth an additional 5 Grand to me over AND above what I paid for my Imagine your thoughts.

Nobody is going to pay MSRP for the machine, but yeah, it's still a lot. You can get a pretty nifty serger and a coverlock machine with almost as much throat space for considerably less.

I have to admit I find the Ovation fetching, it would be nice not to have 2 machines, and the quality of a TOL, but even with what would amount to a great deal, I don't think I could bring myself to spend so much.

I think sergers with the larger plate area are the coming thing, it might be to advantage to wait a year or so, and see what everybody else comes up with.
